2nd ODI: South Africa hope to beat Sangakkara and Colombo heat

Colombo: South Africa will be hoping to overcome the sapping heat of Colombo and bounce back from defeat to Sri Lanka in the series opener, where Kumar Sangakkara's 137-ball 169 flattened the Proteas, when they face the hosts for the second ODI at the Premadasa on Tuesday.

In the absence of regular skipper Angelo Mathews, who has been suspended for two matches for a slow over-rate in the recently concluded tri-series, Dinesh Chandimal had a perfect debut as captain with the team's two experienced players - Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene - coming good and the bowlers bundling out South Africa for 140 to register a massive 180-run victory.

Even in the bowling department, Chandimal did not miss the services of the injured Nuwan Kulasekara as Thisara Perera did his bit taking three wickets with the ball ably supported by Rangana Herath.

South Africa, after starting well with the ball, went into disarray in the death overs conceding 137 runs in the last 12. A fit-again Lonwabo Tsotsobe will most likely replace Chris Morris, who went for over eight runs an over. Morne Morkel, who was a doubtful starter ahead of the series, was the pick of the South African bowlers in the first ODI and with Tsotsobe coming back, the Proteas will be hoping for a good showing with the ball.

Without their preferred top three of Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis, the weakened South African line-up failed to even threaten a big total of 320. Smith and Kallis are not in the squad but skipper AB de Villiers is hoping that Amla will be fit for the second ODI after missing the first due to a neck spasm.

Even though Sri Lanka put up a powerful batting performance in the first ODI, Tillakaratne Dilshan's lack of form and an out-of-sorts Lahiru Thrimanne in the finishers' role is bit of a concern. Chandimal, who dropped himself down the order in the first ODI, too has not done anything substantial so far in recent matches.

Sri Lanka has so far witnessed unseasonal rains and heavy down pour a day before the match will make the pitch slower. Showers are expected during the match as well
