Ajit Chandila relishes his good form for Rajasthan Royals

Bowling at the start of the innings in itself is a very tough job and when you are a spinner, it makes the job even harder. But Rajasthan spinner Ajit Chandila has revelled in the job handed to him by the team management, playing a vital role in every match he has been a part of.

Five wickets in as many matches don't present the true picture as his contribution is much more than the figures reflect. With his offspin, Chandila presents a challenge of a different sort to the opposition batsmen. They are more accustomed to playing a pacer upfront, but getting to face the spin, and that too a well-controlled one, makes life difficult for them.

Chandila did the same in Rajasthan's game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. He first made Akshath Reddy, who had been brought in to the team for the encounter, play a false stroke and then made the situation worse for Sunrisers, which were already tottering at 15 for 4, by getting the wicket of allrounder Thisara Perera.

In spite of having the figures of 2 for 13 in his three overs, Chandila didn't get a chance to bowl his last over. But the 29-year-old hardly complained as he already did the damage and the end result was in the favour of his team.

"May be [Rahul] Dravid thought that with me being an offspinner it would have been difficult later in the slog overs. It is okay, it is part of the game. He is very experienced so he knows the best," Chandila told IPLT20.com after his effort with the ball on Saturday.

Chandila said his main job at the start of the innings is to bowl as many dot balls as possible as that creates panic in the mind of the batsmen. "My main role is to bowl with the new ball and my thinking is to bowl dot balls. The more the dot balls I bowl the better it is for me as batsmen try to attack I get wickets. So that is Rahul bhai's and my plan [as well], that I bowl as many dot balls as I can," he added.

He also praised the way Shane Watson and James Faulkner had been contributing for the side. "He [Watson] is our key player and if he plays well we can win games easily. He scored a hundred in the last game so we were confident that if he is there and will score. All that we needed was one good partnership. And Rahul bhai and Watson built that partnership that helped us win," he said of Watson, who followed his 101 against Chennai Super Kings in the previous game with a 98 not out against Sunrisers.

"He [Faulkner] is a good bowler. His bowling analysis is very good and he has conceded very few runs and got wickets. He is a key bowler for us," Chandila said of the tall Aussie who became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul this season.
