    He doesnt deserve leniency

The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court sentenced Sudheer, main accused in the Paravoor sex case, to one-year imprisonment under Section 506(1) (criminal intimidation) and another six-months simple imprisonment under Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The sentences shall run concurrently and the fine amount will be paid to the victim girl, the court said.“The accused is not entitled to any leniency,” the court said. Pointing out a Supreme Court judgment in a similar case, the court said, “There can never be a graver and more heinous crime than the father being charged of raping his daughter. It is a betrayal of trust. The father is a fortress and refuge of his daughter in whom the daughter trusts.”The prosecution said the punishment should not only a retribution to the accused, but also a message to the society that every girl child is safe and has the protection of law. “Rape is a crime more heinous than murder as it destroys the very soul of hapless women,” the prosecution pointed out.
