Mumbai: On Tuesday, Mumbai woke up to news of yet another deadly road accident at the city's Peddar Road area, where a speeding Honda City flipped over the divider. A 16-year-old girl, one of the car's four occupants, was killed.
The speeding car went on to crash into three other parked vehicles. The victim Shifa Sheikh was out for an ice cream with her family, her 20-year-old sister Sania is critical in the ICU at Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital.
Two other occupants of the car, 19-year-old Fais Sayeed and 17-year-old Mohsin Salim Sheikh suffered minor injuries. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered.
Jaslok Hospital's Medical Officer Admiral SK Mohanty said, "These people were brought in around 4 am, one girl is still critical with multiple injuries and she is still in the ICU."
Earlier on Sunday night, Ankesh Sahara, son of a Mumbai industrialist, crashed his Porsche into a motorcyclist, causing a serious head injury and multiple fractures. While the victim, who was admitted to the Bombay Hospital is now out of danger, Ankesh was granted bail on a bond of Rs 5000.
The two accidents are yet another reminder that often Mumbai's rich and reckless drivers are a menace, endangering and sometimes killing on the city's streets.
