CL T20: Bushrangers cruise past Wayamba

New Delhi: Wayamba's Champions League hopes crashed against a top-quality Victoria Bushrangers side who defeated them by 8 wickets with skipper David Hussey leading Victoria's charge with 47 not out off just 28 balls. Earlier Peter Siddle had taken 4/29 while gunning down Wayamba for 106.

Chasing a dismal target of 107, Bushrangers never looked in any trouble despite losing opener Brad Hodge and Matthew Wade early in their innings.

David Hussey (47) and Aaron Finch (38) then shared an unbeaten 47-ball 77-run third wicket partnership to overhaul the target with 6.4 overs to spare as Victoria moved to the second spot in the points table of Group A.

Victoria's brilliant runchase have also improved their runrate but the road to semifinals will depend on the result of the match between the Warriors and Chennai Superkings at Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Earlier Wayamba were gunned down for a dismal score of 106 inside 20 overs by a high-quality seam bowling effort backed by some scintillating fielding by upbeat Victoria Busrangers side.

Only Mahela Jayawardene (51 0ff 40 balls) and skipper Jehan Mubarak (44 off 30 balls) provided some resistance in the top order as other batsmen collapsed like pack of cards.

Things looked all right for Waymba when Mahela and Mubarak were going fine, but once Mubarak fell things unravelled quite quickly for them. Siddle took 4 wickets and the tail capitulated in no time.

Earlier winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Wayamba lost opener Jeevantha Kulatunga in the very first ball off the second over. He was clean bowled by pacer James Pattinson for 0.

Soon Mahela Udawatte followed him to pavillion with some brilliant fielding by Clint McKay who hit the stumps directly from the mid off region.

Then Jehan Mubarak and Mahela Jayawardene provided some stability to the team but once Mubarak departed, Bushrangers' bowlers made little work of Wayamba middle order and tail. Five players for Wayamba did not trouble the score.

For Bushrangers, Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers with 4/29. James Pattinson and Andrew McDonald took two scalps each.
