    Asoka Mehtas birth centenary celebrated

    BANGALORE: Union Minister for External Affairs S M Krishna attended a function at the Central College to celebrate the birth centenary of popular socialist politician Asoka Mehta who along with Jayprakash Narayan helped organise the socialist wing of the Indian National Congress and holding the post of General Secretary of the Praja Socialist Party. The function was organised by the Centre for Socialist Studies and featured two short films on the life and achievements of Asoka Mehta along with a series of photographs taken over the years of various popular socialist thinkers and politicians. A photograph in particular shows a young S M Krishna addressing a gathering during a meet of the Praja Socialist Party.† The two books based on Mehta√ʬĬôs life along with a souvenir were also released by the minister who took the gathering through an exciting journey of his experiences with India√ʬĬôs Socialist Movement.
