    CPL: Hafeez fifty guides Guyana to victory

    Riding on Mohammad Hafeez's unbeaten half-century, Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Antigua Hawkbills by five wickets on Saturday.

    Antigua deciding to bat first put up 166 on the board with Kieran Powell (47) and Marlon Samuels (43) contributing top of the order. Ben Rohrer batting lower down scored a valuable 17-ball 25 to propel Antigua's score.

    For Guyana, Krishmar Santokie was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets while Christoper Barnwell claimed a wicket. Coming out for the chase, Guyana got off to a decent start before Martin Guptill was retired hurt with the team's score at 29. But that didn't deter Guyana as Lendl Simmons (23), Trevon Griffith (15) and James Franklin (25) laid the platform to keep Guyana in the hunt and then Hafeez finished things off.

    In another match, after put in to bat St Lucia Zouks could manage only 99 for 5 in 20 overs with Andre Fletcher being the top scorer (46). Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel won the match convincingly in 17.5 overs to beat St Lucia by six wickets.

    The third match was also a low-scorer with the team chasing won it comfortably. Jamaica Tallawahs after winning the toss put Barbados Tridents in to bat. Openers Dwayne Smith and Raymon Reifer gave Barbados a brisk start before Muttiah Muralitharan was introduced, who claimed three wickets and conceding 12 runs in his four overs. Smith remained unbeaten on 52 to guide Barbados to 113.

    Coming out for the chase, Jamaica lost three quick wickets at the score of 47 and then Jermaine Blackwood (21) and Andre Russell (27) played patiently to guide Jamaica to a six-wicket win in 18.1 overs.
