CSA clarifies termination of Gibbs contract

Johannesburg: South Africa's cricket body has apologized to Herschelle Gibbs for releasing inaccurate details regarding the termination of the batsman's national team contract.

Cricket South Africa says both parties have agreed to end the contract and the decision came "following amicable discussions" and is "in the best interests of South African cricket."

CSA released a statement on Friday saying it had decided to cancel the 36-year-old Gibbs' contract, which was then agreed to by Gibbs.

CSA says Gibbs is still eligible for South Africa and has permission to play in a Twenty20 competition in New Zealand this month.

Gibbs says "I'd like to thank CSA, my teammates and especially the public for the unbelievable support."
