CSA congratulates South Africa on historic Sri Lanka win

Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Saturday congratulated its national cricket team on the first-ever one-day international series triumph in Sri Lanka.

"This is a highly impressive performance as I believe our team is still developing under (coach) Russell Domingo and (captain) AB de Villiers in this World Cup year," said CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat.

"The home series win over world champions India last season and now beating a top team like Sri Lanka in their home conditions is significant progress. It is a huge improvement from last year's series defeat in Sri Lanka when we were simply outplayed. It shows just how much the Proteas have advanced.

"Our coach, Russell Domingo, and the team have now away series wins over Sri Lanka in both the ODI and T20 formats, and that is no easy feat," he added.

Lorgat said the team could now look forward to regaining the No. 1 Test ranking.

"The team again showed its character in today's victory by the manner in which it fought back to dismiss Sri Lanka's three senior statesmen after they had made such a runaway start," Lorgat said.
