Delhi Daredevils rope in Ross Taylor

New Delhi: New Zealand skipper Ross Taylor will play for the Delhi Daredevils in the fifth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) after the Delhi franchise traded the middle-order Kiwi batsman from Rajasthan Royals.

Taylor - who was bought by the Royals for US $1 million in the 2011 players' auction - is the second batsman traded by the Daredevils after they roped in Kevin Pietersen from the Deccan Chargers in the first transfer window. The transfer amount for Ross Taylor was not disclosed.

The New Zealander's big-hitting prowess had the Royals interested in 2011, but he couldn't turn it on in the 11 innings he played last season, averaging 36.20 with a strike rate of 119.07. He couldn't score even a single half-century, ending up with a top-score of 47 not out. Before playing for Rajasthan in 2011, Taylor played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first three seasons of the IPL.

The skipper of the Black Caps, however, is not part of New Zealand's ongoing home series against South Africa having sustained a calf strain in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in January. Taylor is expected to return to the side for the first Test against South Africa from March 7.
