    Axe the Tax: CNN-IBN meets Pranab Mukherjee

    New Delhi: While corporates and political parties lobby for better deal, ordinary tax payers are the ones who often get a raw deal during the budget. ‘Axe the Tax’, a CNN-IBN campaign has been taking people’s concerns to the Finance Minister for the last four years. Powered by citizens, the campaign has got finance ministers to change or tweak some of the outdated tax laws in the country. This year too the CNN-IBN team met Pranab Mukherjee and presented him the 5 unfair taxes that people want axed. The finance minister has accepted the suggestions and promised to look into them, and hopefully axe them.Here’s what the citizens have requested:-Tax exemption limit raised to Rs 2 lakh.-Reintroduction of Standard Deduction.-Parents want tuition fees fully tax free. -Salaried employees want Medical reimbursement amount to be increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000.-Lastly, there is a request to cut down excise duty on petrol which is currently Rs 15 per litre so that eventually petrol prices come down.Catch this CNN-IBN campaign at 8:30 pm on Saturday and on sunday at 9:30 pm.
