HC to decide BCCI appeal against DC today

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court is likely to take a decision on Thursday on the BCCI's appeal against a status quo order that was passed in its current dispute with disbarred IPL franchise Deccan Chargers. Justice RD Dhanuka will decide the appeal.

Deccan had been told by the Bombay HC to furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 100 crore by 5pm last Friday, a condition that had been set for the struggling team's survival in the league, but it failed to do so, leaving the court with no choice but to uphold the BCCI's termination. BCCI counsel Raju Subramaniam had appealed for those players who would not be able to take part in the auction unless their contracts with DCHL were terminated.

Earlier, after terminating the cash-strapped Deccan from the IPL, the BCCI began the process of finding a new team by floating tender notices for a fresh franchise. The bids have been invited in respect of 12 cities -- Ahmedabad, Cuttack, Dharamsala, Indore, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Kochi, Nagpur, Noida, Rajkot, Ranchi and Vizag. The tender notice said that all bidding parties will need to fulfill the eligibility criteria and other requirements specified in the Invitation to Tender.
