I don't know whether it's a jinx: Gambhir on KKR's exit

Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL title defence fell by the wayside on Tuesday when a 65-run away loss at Mumbai Indians ended their hopes of entering the play-offs, but Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir refused to admit that his team is jinxed when playing away from home.

"I don't know whether it's [playing away] a jinx, but if you don't play proper cricket, this is what is going to happen," Gambhir, who posted his seventh duck in IPL, said after the match, refusing to blame their lopsided show to the losses away from home.

Kolkata haven't won a single away game this season, losing all six whenever they have travelled. Adding those to the two defeats at home, Kolkata have lost eight of the 12 games they have played so far this season, which leaves them with eight points and just ahead of the other two ousted teams - Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors India - at the bottom of the table.

Kolkata have four games left this season, but with a net run rate as bad as -0.273, they don't even have a mathematical chance of making it to the top four. But Gambhir refuses to take it lying down and hopes to sign off in style in the remaining matches.

"Every game is a new game. I see a lot of quality around our dressing room. We have four more games to go. We'll put our best playing XI on the park," the KKR skipper said.
