    India to play SA in Champions Trophy opener

    The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday declared the full schedule for the Champions Trophy to be held from June 6 to 23 next year.

    The matches of the three-week long tournament will be held at the Oval, Cardiff and Edgbaston. The Oval and Cardiff will host the first and second semi-finals respectively, while the final has been awarded to Edgbaston.

    World champions India will take on South Africa in the first match of the tournament on June 6. Other than facing South Africa, India will also play against West Indies and arch-rival Pakistan in the group stage on June 11 and 15 respectively. The tournament will see the eight teams divided into two pools of four. Group A will feature Australia, England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka with India, Pakistan, South Africa and West Indies contesting Group B.

    "This will be an incredible opportunity for fans to see the world's very best One-Day sides in action over the space of less than three weeks and the fixture schedule has thrown up a host of exciting head-to-head contests," tournament director, Steve Elworthy said in a statement.

    "The format means every match counts and all eight teams will feel that they are capable of winning the tournament in a competition which is set to be one of the highlights of the 2013 summer."
