Injured Irfan out of Baroda's game against Vidarbha

Vadodara: Irfan Pathan, the India and Baroda allrounder, is set to miss the next Ranji Trophy game against Vidarbha at home, owing to his knee that got injured during the drawn game with Karnataka. Irfan is expected to visit the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehabilitation.

The injury could be the result of seven days of non-stop cricket, beginning with India's A game against England XI, followed by Baroda's outing against Karnataka. Irfan had a good outing for Baroda with the bat, scoring a hundred that helped the side gaining three points after being down at 88 for 4, and 38 against Karnataka. He bowled 25 overs for two wickets in the first innings but did not come out to field during the second innings.

"Irfan was suffering from swollen knee from second day of the match," Baroda coach Sanath Kumar was quoted as saying by Times Of India. "His injury has aggravated and hence he will have to undergo treatment."

The newspaper also reported that Irfan was in pain throughout his presence on the field and the Baroda coach said the return of the player would depend on how quickly he would recover from the injury. "I cannot say how much time Irfan would take to get fit. It all depends on his rehabilitation at National Cricket Academy," Kumar said. "He suffered from the swollen knee probably due to playing continuously over the last few weeks."
