IPL 2017 Live Score: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Lions

19:04(IST)

Baidurjo: I must admit you do a good job of looking for positives in places there exists none. Anyway, another drubbing for a team that you are supporting.

Likely XI

Kolkata Knight Riders: Gambhir, de Grandhomme, Uthappa, Pandey, Yusuf, Suryakumar, Woakes, Narine, Kuldeep, Umesh, Coulter-Nile

19:03(IST)

Arnab: Ravindra Jadeja has been ordinary with the ball so far, expect him to get going at some point. But it will be about the performances of the paces tonight and Tye will have to lead the way. The likes of Dhawal Kulkarni and Praveen Kumar will have to come up with the goods for Gujarat to have a chance today.

I also have a lot of hope from the young Basil Thampi, who has impressed with his performances and is very highly rated by his teammates. Has a good yorker and gets movement off the pitch.

Also I am in favour of the inclusion of Jame sFaulkner, in place of Dwayne Smith. Bowling is their problem and they must address it.

Here is the Gujarat Likely XI:

Gujarat Lions: McCullum, Raina, Karthik, Finch, Kishan, Faulkner, Jadeja, Tye, Thampi, Dhawal, Jakati

18:57(IST)

Baidurjo: Accepted, but what will Raina do about the almost non-existent bowling attack. Andrew Tye looks like the only silver lining, but he alone can't do much.

Gautam Gambhir is in terrific form, has that extra zing when playing at the Eden Gardens, add to that the fact that Manish Pandey is in top form, playing mature knocks and you have a KKR batting line up that is looking in the pink of its health.

Not to mention, Yusuf Pathan, who gave glimpses of his glorious hitting prowess in the last match against Delhi, in a tricky chase

18:54(IST)

Arnab: I agree, the batting has been a bit disjointed, but this might just be the match when things work out for the Lions. Finch it seems has been assigned the role of an aggressor by the management. Also, you need to see the circumstances that he has come in to bat. Most of the times it is about providing the impetus in the second half of the innings. So can't really be too  harsh on him.

18:51(IST)

Baidurjo: McCullum alone can't win it for Gujarat. Raina has had a blow hot, blow cold tournament so far and no one else has really been consistent with the bat. Aaron Finch has been a major disappointment. He just looks to whack the ball out of the park, without really trying to get a substantial knock under his belt.

18:48(IST)

Arnab: Well, McCullum likes the ball coming on to the bat and pace might not be of much use against the hard hitting batsman. McCullum has 225 runs to his name with two half-centuries and if he gets going then Gujarat can actually turn the tables on the hosts.

Also, the newly laid Eden track is not helping the spinners so much. It is advantage McCullum in that case

18:44(IST)

Baidurjo: Yeah, but it might just turn out to be a no show for the Kiwi, given Kolkata's bowling attack. The pitch at Eden Gardens is also assisting pacers so expect KKR to go full tilt.

18:39(IST)

Arnab: That is fine Baidurjo, no need to justify. But the only problem is that Gujarat Lions will be able to make a match out of it only if their bowlers turn up. Having said that, the batting looks in good health, specially with Brendon McCullum hitting form. A homecoming of sorts for the Kiwi today, KKR was his first IPL franchise.

18:35(IST)

Baidurjo: Totally Arnab, KKR have been one of the teams of the season, while Gujarat Lions have been struggling. For the day though I would like to bat for the Knight Riders, since I am the Kolkata boy here smiley

Hi, this is Arnab Sen, editor of Cricketnext and I have with me Baidurjo Bhose, our cricket correspondent, and today we will be focussing on the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Lions. Kolkata is playing their third match at the Eden Gardens this season and they have a 100 percent home record to preserve. Gujarat on the other hand are lying at the bottom of the pile and time is running out for them

The teams - KKR and GL - met twice last season with Gujarat winning on both occasions.

18:27(IST)

Since that four-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians in their second outing, the Gautam Gambhir-led franchise has not looked back, scripting a hattrick of wins. Besides Gambhir looking rock solid at the top of the order (196 runs in five matches), Pandey has been in outstanding form, amassing 221 from his four essays at a staggering average of 221.

18:27(IST)

Against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad too, Gujarat succumbed to a tame defeat in the second game of the campaign.

18:26(IST)

Coming to the home team KKR, the twice IPL champions showed exemplary character during their nail-biting four-wicket win against Delhi Daredevils with one ball remaining.

18:25(IST)

KKR openers Gautam Gambhir (76 off 48) and Chris Lynn (93 off 41) made short work of Gujarat's 183 where Raina top-scored with an unbeaten 68. Since then, both sides have treaded different paths with the men in purple recording four victories and just one loss out of their five engagements so far, and Gujarat facing four reversals and just one win to show for.

18:24(IST)

Against Steve Smith's Rising Pune Supergiant, Australian medium pacer Andrew Tye bagged a hat-trick an returned best figures of (5/17) as Gujarat Lions won by seven wickets with two overs to spare.
