Mumbai Indians needed a quick start if they had to chase down the target of 199, set by Kings XI Punjab. The 'Blue Brigade' got more than what they had expected as the duo of Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel lit up the Holkar stadium with a classic display of power-hitting, that saw Mumbai notch up their fifty in just four overs.
But once Parthiv Patel was dismissed, with the score on 81, it was essential for Mumbai to not lose the momentum. And it is here that youngster Nitish Rana had an important role the play.
The southpaw came out to bat at the fall of Parthiv's wicket and got into the groove almost immediately. He matched Buttler's power-packed show with his own blitz as the duo put on a fifty-run stand in just 29 deliveries.
Rana has made a name for himself in this IPL due to his consistent performances with the bat for the Mumbai Indians and the man's confidence was on show yet again.
He hit Punjab's pedestrian bowling for seven huge sixes to bat the home team out of the match. Buttler departed after scoring 77 runs, but Rana stayed till the end.
The youngster finished the job with a massive six in the company of Hardik Pandya, to take Mumbai Indians to victory with 27 balls to spare. He was unbeaten on 62 off 34 deliveries.
This was Mumbai Indians' fifth victory on the trot and Nitish Rana has played a pivotal role in the franchise's success so far, which can be seen from the fact that the youngster currently leads the run-scoring chart and received the 'Orange Cap' at the end of the match.
