With Travis Head and Ab de Villiers back in the dug-out, Royal Challengers Bangalore needed someone to give skipper Virat Kohli company in the middle and in walked Kedar Jadhav, RCB’s second-most successful batsman this season behind Kohli with 206 runs in 8 innings. But when a dreadful miscommunication between Kohli and Kedar ended the latter’s innings, run out, it was the final nail in the coffin for RCB. They ultimately went on to lose by 61 runs.

It was the 8th over of the innings when Lockie Ferguson bowled to it short and outside the off-stump to Kedar. And the batsman cut it to point and look for a quick single. But, they decide against it and with Kohli outside his crease, the fielder threw the ball at the non-striker’s end.

Ferguson failed to gather the ball cleanly and Kedar then decided to steal a single. Kohli was deep inside the crease and even though he made a start, he stopped mid-way. Kedar though was on his way and with the two not really looking at each other, Kedar was half-way down the track. And before Kedar could make a return to the crease, MS Dhoni had removed the bails at the striker’s end.

This was not the first time that the two had a misunderstanding in the middle. A similar situation arose in the 6th over when Kohli punched the ball to covers and took off for a quick single. But Kedar was not backing up well enough and Kohli had to go back after running half-way down the track. Kohli had to dive back into the crease.

But Kedar was not as lucky and with RCB still needing 114 runs off 74 balls, the writing was clearly on the walls for Bangalore.
