IPL 5, Match 22: as it happened

    Kolkata Knight Riders:

17th over: 127 for 2. Kallis finishes off things for Kolkata in style. He hits a four and follows it up with a six to win it for his team.

16th over: 117 for 2. Mascarenhas gives away 10 runs in this over as Kolkata require only eight runs to clinch the tie.

15th over: 107 for 2. Someone comes running onto the field and throws papers on the players, but he is taken care of by the security personnel. Gambhir has paced his innings well with measured stroke-play.

14th over: 97 for 2. Kolkata should have promoted Yusuf Pathan up the order and a talent like him is being wasted by playing down.

13th over: 91 for 2. Kallis in between getting in the odd boundary. Bhargav Bhatt bowls a flighted one and Kallis steps down to play it over covers for a four.

12th over: 83 for 2. Tidy over from Mascarenhas, just three runs coming off it. But the Punjab bowlers are also keeping things tight.

11th over: 80 for 2. Kolkata are now moving steadily to the target. With Gambhir and Kallis batting it's just matter of time.

10th over: 75 for 2. Three runs and the wicket of Bisla. It is a soft dismissal, as Bisla chops one to his stumps off Chawla.

    Manvinder Bisla b Chawla 11 (14)

9th over: 72 for 1. Harmeet Singh again goes for runs. Bisla hits one glorious six off the backfoot over mid-off.

8th over: 60 for 1. Gambhir moves closer to his half century. Gilchrist misses a easy chance of stumping in this over, which is quite rare of him. Maybe his reflexes have slowed down or is it the hamstring.

7th over: 56 for 1. Bisla and Gambhir are now playing it safe without taking much risk. Kolkata are easily inching towards victory.

6th over: 53 for 1. Gilchrist brings in Piyush Chawla and he gives Punjab their first breakthrough. Chawla bowls a short-pitched one and expects it go for a six, but McCullum plays into the hands of short fine-leg.

    Brendon McCullum c Mascarenhas b Chawla 15 (18)

5th over: 47 for 0. After bowling a maiden over, Praveen Kumar goes for plenty and again it's Gambhir doing the damage.

4th over: 32 for 0. Gambhir now gets into his groove to take the attack to Harmeet Singh and gets 14 runs from this over. Gambhir clips one off his pads for a six over midwicket and then a four over covers.

3rd over: 18 for 0. What a comeback from Praveen Kumar as he bowls a maiden over and more importantly by keeping McCullum silent.

2nd over: 18 for 0. Five years ago on this day, McCullum had scored the first century of IPL, maybe today he can repeat the same feat. Till now he looks in a positive frame of mind. Eight runs coming off this Mascarenhas over.

1st over: 10 for 0. A good move by Kolkata to open with McCullum and Gambhir, basically a left-right combination. McCullum hits Praveen Kumar for two boundaries that to with complete disdain.

    Kings XI Punjab:

20th over: 124 for 7. All over for Punjab. Narine cleans up Chawla to restrict Punjab to 124. An excellent bowling performance by Kolkata and a disappointing outing for Punjab with the bat.

    Piyush Chawla b Narine 9 (10)

19th over: 114 for 6. It all happens in this over. A catch of Piyush Chawla dropped by Bisla and a brilliant save by McCullum near the boundary ropes, clearly saved five runs for his side.

18th over: 107 for 6. Punjab are now losing wickets in every over. Narine comes in for his second spell and gets the wicket of Paras Dogra.

    Paras Dogra c Kallis b Narine 6 (8)

17th over: 103 for 5. Dimitri Mascarenhas also fails to lift the ante and falls while going for a big one off Bhatia.

    Dimitri Mascarenhas c Tiwary b Bhatia 9 (10)

16th over: 96 for 4. Punjab need boundaries to post a competitive score on the board, which are now hard to come for Punjab.

15th over: 89 for 4. Nothing going Punjab's way at this moment. Another wicket falls and this time it's David Hussey run out due to a confusion with his partner Paras Dogra.

David Hussey run out 10 (14)

14th over: 86 for 3. Lee gets his second wicket of the match and this time it's Marsh caught behind by Bisla. However, there is some controversy involved if the catch was taken cleanly. Marsh asks Bisla, if the ball had carried to him and the wicketkeeper gives a thumbs up and off walks Marsh towards the pavilion.

    Shaun Marsh c Bisla b Lee 33 (30)

13th over: 83 for 2. Kolkata have not taken wickets in heaps, but managed to choke the scoring rate with some tight bowling. Either Marsh or Hussey has to go after the bowling.

12th over: 75 for 2. Balaji is having a great time out there with some discipline bowling. David Hussey and Shaun Marsh are presently contend with singles and twos.

11th over: 68 for 2. There are no demons in this pitch so far, but somehow the Punjab batsmen are struggling to free their arms. Rajat Bhatia bowls his over and a tight one.

10th over: 63 for 2. Balaji's wicket-to-wicket bowling reaps benefit. Mandeep Singh in order to break the shackles goes for a big one and top edges to third man fielder.

    Mandeep Singh c Bhatia b Balaji 6 (10)

9th over: 61 for 1. Yusuf Pathan comes in to bowl his slow offspinners and bowls a tight one, except for a four hit by Marsh.

8th over: 54 for 1. Good move by Gambhir to bring in Balaji at second change. Balaji bowls a tidy over, as Punjab batsmen are finding it difficult to cut loose.

7th over: 50 for 1. Shaun Marsh plays a depth cut off Narine, which races for a four in the third man region. Another decent over from Narine.

6th over: 45 for 1. Gilchrist walks off the field. While going for a quick single, the Punjab skipper does his hamstring in. He can't continue, as runners are not allowed for injured batsman and Mandeep Singh comes out the middle.

5th over: 34 for 1. Sunil Narine comes in to bowl and pretty early when there is still purchase for the fast bowlers. Fourth ball, Narine pitches it short and Gilchrist treats it with a smashing four.

4th over: 29 for 1. Jacques Kallis gets through an miserly over by just giving five runs.

3rd over: 24 for 1. Lee dismisses Valthaty, when the opener tried to chase down a away going delivery and brilliantly taken by wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla diving to his right.

    Paul Valthaty c Bisla b Lee 8 (8)

2nd over: 15 for 0. The pitch has a true bounce and coming nicely on to the bat. Kolkata have to make a breakthrough early, especially the prized wicket of Adam Gilchrist.

1st over: 8 for 0. This Mohali pitch has something for the pace bowlers, as the curator has left some grass on the track. Brett Lee is getting some movement, but the last delivery Paul Valthaty pushes the ball gently and off she races down for a boundary.
