IPL 7 auction: Top base price for Sehwag, Yuvraj, Aussie Ashes heroes

After missing out on retention from their respective franchises, India veterans Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh - along with Australia's Ashes super star Mitchell Johnson - have attracted the top base price of Rs. 20 million for the IPL players' auction to be held in Bangalore on Feburay 12 and 13.

In the list of 232 capped players - which includes 46 Indians - from ten countries finalised by the IPL, only 31 are in the top price bracket. The other prominent Indian names part of the 31 top-grossers are Dinesh Karthik, Pragyan Ojha, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Mishra, Prveeen Kumar and Murali Vijay. Yusuf's brother Irfan is out of the that bracket and is valued at Rs. 15 million.

The notable expatriates absent from the full list are Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara and Dinesh Chandimal, Australia skipper Michael Clarke and team-mate Mitchell Marsh, England fast bowlers Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes and wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler, and West Indies pacer Kemar Roach.

The hottest property among the debutants in the IPL auction is New Zealand allrounder Corey Anderson, especially after he hit the fastest ODI hundred against the West Indies and then hammered the Indian team in the ODI series, apart from taking a five-wicket haul. He has a base price of Rs 10 million.

The list of capped players circulated to the franchises erroneously included the name of Baroda wicketkeeper-batsman Pinal Shah. The lists mentioned Shah as having played four ODIs, but he has never been part of any Indian squad.

Pakistan players continue to remain out of the list, though Azhar Mahmood - who now is an England citizen - and Fawad Ahmad - who was recently granted Australian citizenship - are part of the pool.

The 43-year-old Brad Hogg is the oldest capped player and is valued at Rs. 15 million. The only player from among the Associate ICC members is Ryan ten Doeschate of the Netherlands. He has a base price of Rs. 10 million.

The new IPL regulations stipulate players will be paid in Indian rupees. For the foreigners, it can be converted into the currency of their choice. The conversion will be calculated per the exchange rate prevailing either at the actual date of payment or contract due date, whichever benefits the player more.
