Jesse Ryder fined for insulting umpires

Wellington: Troubled New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been fined NZ$750 (US$600) for using insulting and offensive language to umpires during his comeback first-class match last month.

Ryder, who was playing his first domestic match since February, scored centuries in both innings for Wellington against Central Districts but was cited for a level one breach of New Zealand Cricket's code of conduct.

The umpires said Ryder reacted angrily when his appeal for an lbw decision during Central Districts' second innings was declined. A code of conduct commissioner, hearing the case against Ryder on Friday, agreed his language was insulting and offensive.

Ryder has not played for New Zealand since a February one-dayer against South Africa, when he was found to have breached team rules by drinking while injured.
