Colombo: Bangladesh has called up Shamsur Rahman for the remainder of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rahman is replacing the injured Tamim Iqbal, who suffered a hairline fracture to his right thumb during the series opener on Saturday.
"It is a fracture which normally takes around four to six weeks to heal. For further information, I will go to Dhaka in the new week. I will have an MRI, but it is definitely a fracture," lamented Iqbal.
24-year-old Rahman has amassed 978 runs in 48 List-A fixtures. He was the third-highest run-scorer in the Bangladesh Premier League, scoring 421 runs in 12 matches at an average of 42.10 and a strike-rate of 130.74 for the Rangpur Riders.
Also, medium pacer Shahadat Hossain will join the Tigers' squad for Monday's second ODI as a replacement for the injured Nazmul Hossain. Reports suggest both Rahman and Hossain are likely to play in the match. Bangladesh are trailing 1-0 in the series.
