No question of pulling out of UPA: DMK sources

New Delhi: DMK sources have said that there is no question of the party pulling out of the UPA after CBI's supplementary chargesheet on the 2G scam naming Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi.

The DMK will hold a high level meeting on Wednesday. Sources have said that the meeting will discuss legal strategy and the fallout of the 2G scam.

DMK sources have also said that Kanimozhi being named in the chargesheet was not a surprise.

DMK chief M Karunanidhi's daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi was charged on Monday for criminal conspiracy and accepting bribe by the CBI.

In its 48 page supplementary chargesheet, CBI said that Kanimozhi was A Raja's co-conspirator and accepted a bribe of Rs 200 crore along with former telecom minister for awarding the 2G license to Swan Telecom.

Kalaignar TV CEO Sharad Kumar, Cineyug Films Karim Morani, and Kusegaon Realty's Rajeev Agarwal and Asif Balwa are the other four charged in the supplementary chargesheet.

Additional charges were also slapped on A Raja for accepting bribes and on Shahid Balwa and Vinod Goenka for paying a bribe.

CBI investigations have revealed that the DB group took a loan of Rs 242 crore from a financial service company on December 23, 2008. And Rs 200 crore out of this loan was routed on the same day to Cineyug and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables, who in turn transferred the money on the same date to Kalignar.

CBI believes this money was the bribe for Raja and Kanimozhi, even though Kalignar claims this was an unsecured loan.

"Section 12 has been added to Mr Shahid Balwa and Mr Goenka. Section 7 alternatively section 11 have been charged on Kanimozhi. Three accused who have been summoned are Sharad Agarwal, Karim Morani and Kanimozhi," said Vijay Agarwal, lawyer for Shahid Balwa.

Interestingly though, 60 per cent stake holder in Kalaignar, Dayalu Ammal, has not been charged with any criminal offence.

CBI chargesheet says that Amaal, who is Karunanidhi's wife and union minister Alagiri's mother, was a ghost director given that position only to complete the quorum.

The agency also says Dayalu had nothing to do with day to day workings of Kalignar, a finding, which would give some respite to the DMK first family.

The DMK has called a high-level meet on Wednesday to discuss the political fallout of the chargesheet.

A month and a half after she was first questioned, criminal culpability of Kanimozhi has been established. The court has summoned her on May 6 and it's on that day that special CBI judge would decide if she would join A Raja in Tihar Jail.
