The PCB is all set to appoint former leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed as the spin consultant of the national team as his contract with the England team has expired.
Reliable sources close to the former leggie said that the England Cricket Board has already released Mushtaq as new chief coach Peter Moores and skipper Alastair Cook is keen for a new support staff.
"Mushtaq has been on the ECB payrolls since 2008 but now he has been released by them and is free to take up the PCB assignment," a source said.
Incidentally, Mushtaq was first appointed as England's spin bowling consultant by Moores in 2008, who has now returned as the head coach.
Mushtaq and Pakistan's former off-spin great, Saqlain Mushtaq have both applied for the position of spin bowling consultant and one of them is expected to be appointed this week.
Saqlain had also applied for the head coach position but the board has already appointed Waqar Younis for that post.
