Sitapur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday said that her party had developed the state more than any other government in the past while kick starting her party’s election campaign in Sitapur.Addressing a massive election rally in Sitapur, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief blamed the Centre for not providing enough support to the state. The rally was attended by over 17000 supporters of Mayawati where she spelt out her development record and other achievements such as maintaining law and order in the state, her record in delivering justice and well being for all citizens. The UP Chief Minister further emphasised on the Sarvajan Samaj, as part of the Bahujan Samaj, which her party is working for. According to Mayawati, the BSP now stands for all sections of society, and not just the Dalits.Speaking with CNN-IBN after addressing the rally, she said, "Our election plank is that during the five years of BSP rule, we have developed UP more than any other government in the past. Earlier governments did not pay enough attention to development.""A five year term is not enough to get rid of the backwardness here. The Centre hasn’t provided enough support to us earlier. More work has to be done in Uttar Pradesh, the state needs more development and only BSP can lead the people of the state to rise above backwardness," said Mayawati.According to Mayawati, development and law and order are her twin points of emphasis and she feels voters will reward her for that.Earlier, addressing the rally, the BSP chief hit out at the Centre, saying, "Congress is making empty promises on reservation. Opposition parties accuse us of corruption and criminalisation but it is these parties that bought these ills to the state. 62 scams unearthed by the UPA. Most black money abroad belongs to opposition parties," she said.Taking a dig on the UPA government on the NRHM sam, she said, "The central agencies have been quicker in investigating NRHM scam during the election time than investigating scams like 2G and CWG. Congress has misused the CBI. In NRHM, I suspended 2 ministers and handed over investigations to CAG and CBI knowing fully well they report to the UPA government.""The state government is not involved with NRHM directly. If there were anomalies, why did the Centre not point it out to us? If UP officials are to blame, so are the officers and ministers of the central government," she added. The massive election rally came even as a key Mayawati financer, liquor baron Gurpreet Chadha alias Ponty Chadha was raided by the Income Tax Department.Raids were conducted at 17 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Known to be close to Mayawati, Ponty Chadha is the sole liquor distributor in the state. Income tax sources say that each bottle sold in UP is priced above MRP and the margin money is shared between Ponty and UP politicians.
