New Delhi: Sports Minister Ajay Maken, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni and Tourism Minister Kumari Selja objected to the tax waiver to the International Cricket Council in a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, sources said.
The Cabinet had on Thursday approved a Rs 45 crore service tax exemption to the ICC, but sources have said that UPA members were not on the same page over the issue.
Sources have said that the objection was raised on ICC's double standards seeking tax waiver but denying coverage rights to the media.
Maken wanted an exemption extended to non-commercial sports.
Sources said that ICC President and Union Minister Sharad Pawar was upset that the Cabinet note didn't mention that exemption was a prior commitment.
