    Ranji Trophy Group C, Round 2, Day 4: Assam trounce Jharkhand

    Spinners J Syed Mohammad and Arlen Konwar shared nine wickets between them as Assam posted their second consecutive win in the Ranji Trophy after defeating hosts Jharkhand by 53 runs on the final day of their Group C match. Chasing 213 for an outright win, the hosts were bundled up for 159.

    Syed Mohammad shone with the ball, picking up 5 for 52 runs in his 35 overs while Konwar ably supported him with figures of 4 for 72. Konwar completed his 10-wicket haul in the match after accounting for six Jharkhand batsmen in the first innings.

    Assam, who had trounced Tripura in the season opener, earned six points from this match. This was Jharkhand's first defeat of the season

    Soumya Swain's unbeaten century helped Services to salvage a draw even as hosts Himachal Pradesh walked away with three points on the virtue of their first innings lead. Swain struck a patient 235-ball 118 and, in the company of Ansuhl Gupta (64) and Yashpal Singh (59 not out), showed a lot of resolve and determination to steer his side to a draw.

    Starting the day at 46 for 2, Services scored 314 for four in 90 overs in response to Himachal's first innings total of 544 for 6 declared after having scored 312 all out in their first essay. On the final day of their tie, Services were off to a bad start as they lost Pratik Desai (27) in the second over of the morning session today. He just managed to add one run to his overnight score.

    Goa pressed hard for an outright win before settling for a draw and three points on the basis of first-innings lead on the final day of their Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. After taking a 68-run first innings lead, Goa threatened to dismiss Jammu and Kashmir for a low score, reducing the visitors to 28 for 5 with Jakati claiming four wickets, but failed to wrap up match on the fourth afternoon.

    Bandeep Singh and captain Samiullah Beigh shared 55 runs for an unbroken seventh wicket to end at 95 for 6 and deny Goa an outright win. The home side took one point by virtue of the draw.

    Andra Pradesh registered three crucial points against Tripura, thanks to a 176-run first innings lead, in their Ranji Trophy Group C match as the visitors finished second innings at 170 for 4 on the fourth and final day. Tripura had scored 260 in their first innings but the hosts overhauled the total, amassing 436 for 8 declared to take a lead of 176 runs on Day 3.
