S.Aust govt says no plans to rename Adelaide Oval

Adelaide: South Australia's state government says it has no plans to change the name of the Adelaide Oval by selling naming rights to a corporate sponsor.

Stadium manager Ian Collins said the sale of naming rights could raise as much as $20 million over five years, helping to balance the books of the ground after the high cost of extensive redevelopments in recent years.

State treasurer Jack Snelling said this government believed the public would not support changing the name of the ground, which dates back to 1871.

Snelling acknowledged the government was passing up income by rejecting naming-rights sponsorship but said there was "no appetite in the community" for a name change.
