Guwahati: Is insurgency declining and is the development plank working either ways its Tarun Gogoi all the way in Assam. The CNN-IBN- The Week post poll survey for the state of Assam projects that.
Unlike the last assembly elections, this time the Congress is sailing through winning between 64 to 72 seats of 126 seats. The AGP is a distant second with a seat projection between 16 to 22 seats. The Congress gains a five per cent vote share while the AGP is down by two per cent.
But what seems to have got Gogoi his votes is the perception that insurgency is down, development is up and Gogoi is cashing in on that.
Gogoi is also by far the most popular candidate for chief minister polling 37 per cent, more then the rest of the candidates put together.
But it is also the sense that insurgency is down and the ULFA is talking peace - the credit going to the congress camp. About 68 per cent feel that the Central Government's talks with ULFA are important for permanent peace.
