Shaharyar Khan elected as PCB chairman

Islamabad: Former foreign secretary Shaharyar Khan was appointed as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday.

Justice Mohammad Sair Ali, who was appointed as election commissioner, says Khan has been elected unanimously by the PCB's board of governors after no other candidate filed nomination papers.

It will be 80-year-old Khan's second stint as PCB chairman. His previous three-year tenure ended in 2006 when Pakistan forfeited a test match against England.

Pakistan's Supreme Court had directed the government to hold fresh elections earlier this month after previous chairmen Najam Sethi and Zaka Ashraf were involved in various court cases since May 2013.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is also patron of the PCB, had appointed Sethi and Khan directly on the board of governors.
