New Delhi: He wasn’t part of the initial Test squad, but opener Shikhar Dhawan replaced an injured Murali Vijay in the team for the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka in the Island Nation. Vijay complained of pain in his wrist while playing a preparatory match. The same wrist injury had troubled him during the last Test series against Australia at home.

And with the match set to start on Wednesday, Dhawan posted a photo where he is seen relaxing ahead of the team’s training session ahead of the first day’s action at the Galle International Stadium. The post read: “Enjoy sitting on grass ,quite relaxing..Got net practise in a bit and looking forward for tomorrow's game.😊😊👍🏼”

Having been ignored for the Test series, Dhawan was holidaying in Disneyland with his family. Dhawan came into the last series against West Indies on the back of some stunning form in the Champions Trophy. But he struggled to get going in the Caribbean after the first couple of games. He scored 87 in the first washed out match and then followed it up with another fluent knock of 63. But he was dismissed rather cheaply in the other matches. He will also be disappointed by the fact he could not convert his starts into something big and will look to do that in the Test series in Sri Lanka.

While Dhawan is set to open, the other opener is yet to be decided upon as regular opener KL Rahul is down with fever and the BCCI informed on Monday that he will not be available for selection in the first Test. While Abhinav Mukund was picked as the third opener, it will be interesting to see if the team management does pick Mukund or go in with Cheteshwar Pujara as the makeshift opener.
