Preview: Bangladesh will be eyeing their first away series win when they take on Sri Lanka in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) cricket match at the Sinhalese Sports Club.

It all fell in place for Bangladesh in the first ODI and the series could have looked very different if rain hadn't intervened midway through the second game.

Sri Lanka, after opting to bat first, put up 311 riding on Kusal Mendis's 102 and an innings of 65 from the stand-in skipper Upul Tharanga.

No team has ever won chasing a 300-plus target here in an ODI, and the home side would have backed its chances of pulling off a series-levelling win there.

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be. And the rain also meant that Sri Lanka's revamped bowling attack, with Nuwan Kulasekara, Nuwan Pradeep and Dilruwan Perera — all in the mix after being drafted in following the loss in the first game — couldn't be tested.

Commentary (Bangladesh innings)

So that's it from all of us for this encounter and ODI series. We hope you enjoyed our coverage of the game. These two sides now lock horns in the T20I series starting on April 4, 2017 at 1900 local time (1330 GMT). Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Sri Lanka captain Upul Tharanga says that his team played really well. Thinks that the run outs cost them the momentum but Thisara Perera played well to bring things back in control. Calls Thisara's knock a very important one. Says that the all-rounder really showed that he can hit the ball really well.

Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza says that they were not upto the mark. Opines that they lost the match in the first ten overs of either innings. Says that they lost too many wickets early and adds that Sarkar and Shakib did play well but couldn't carry on. Ends by saying that they will work on their mistakes and try to improve in their next ODI assignment against Ireland.

Man of the Series, Kusal Mendis (translated from Sinhalese) says that he is extremely happy with his performance. Credits his team for always showing confidence in him.

Man of the Match, Thisara Perera starts off saying that he is really happy with his batting. He has given his everything in practice. Mentions that he has come back after six months and wants to really do well in the future. Credits his practice sessions for his good show.

Earlier in the match, Gunathilaka and Tharanga gave their side a dream start - 76 in the first ten overs. Though Bangladesh pulled things back in the middle overs, a breezy knock from Thisara ensured that they posted a par total on board. How important was his knock? Who will be the Man of the Match? Thisara or Kulasekara? Let's find out at the presentation....

A lot was expected from Mahmudullah, but Suranga Lakmal got rid of him early. Mehedi Hasan along with Taskin Ahmed stitched together a stand of 54 to frustrate the Islanders. In the process, Mehedi Hasan also slammed his maiden fifty to showcase his potential. But it was never going to be enough as Nuwan Kulasekara struck twice in the final over to help his side win the match and level the series. Coming to the other Sri Lankan bowlers, all were economical. The pick though was Kulasekara who finished with figures of 7.3-0-37-4.

If one asks me where did the chase become really difficult for Bangladesh - I would suggest after the first four overs. Bangladesh lost three big wickets in Tamim Iqbal, Sabbir Rahman and Mushiqur Rahim. Those dismissals broke the back of the chase pretty early. Though Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar stuck around to steady the ship with a 77-run stand, Dilruwan Perera bowled a beauty to get rid of the latter. Shakib was having issues with his back which might have led to his wicket as he looked to really go after the bowling once he got to his fifty.

44.3 N Kulasekara to T Ahmed, OUT! All over for Bangladesh! SRI LANKA WIN BY 70 RUNS. Nuwan Kulasekara bowls this a lot fuller, Taskin Ahmed looks to go downtown. He gets the elevation but fails to get the desired distance. The ball flies towards long on where Asela Gunaratne runs to his left to catch it. That is it, the hosts have levelled the ODI series 1-1. 210/10

44.2 N Kulasekara to M Rahman, Rahman pushes this to covers for a single and gets off the mark. 210/9

Mustafizur Rahman is the last man in. Bangladesh need 72 more runs in 35 balls. The writing seems to be on the wall for them.

43.1 A Gunaratne to M Hasan, FOUR! Supreme placement. Asela bowls a length delivery on the sticks, Mehedi Hasan makes room and cuts it through point for a boundary. The point and short third man fielders gave up the chase far too quickly. That brings up the 50-run stand as well. 206/8

Asela Gunaratne brought back on for a bowl. Bangladesh need 79 more runs in 42 balls. Are we in for a twist here?

40.1 S Lakmal to M Hasan, NOT OUT! Mehedi survives! Hasan drives this fullish delivery towards the bowler, who collects it and scores a direct hit at the striker's end. Mehedi Hasan goes back to make his ground but it seems close. The umpire takes it upstairs. Replays show that Hasan had just plonked his bat in the crease. 182/8

Suranga Lakmal has hurled the ball back at the striker's end after collecting and the umpires have gone up for a run out against Mehedi Hasan. Looks close.
