PREVIEW SL vs ZIM, DAY 4: Sikandar Raza hit a gritty 97 not out to help Zimbabwe recover from a top-order collapse and stretch their second innings lead over Sri Lanka to 262 in the one-off Test on Sunday. The visitors were 252 for six at stumps on day three, with Raza and Malcolm Waller (57) putting on an unbeaten 107-run stand for the seventh-wicket at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium. Raza lifted Zimbabwe from a precarious 23-4, followed by 59-5, after Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Rangana Herath rattled the visitors' batting with four early wickets. Herath, who got three wickets before the lunch break, bowled Sean Williams for 22 in the second session as Zimbabwe teetered dangerously close to losing their 10-run advantage. It was then that Raza put together 86 runs with Peter Moor (40) for the sixth wicket to turn the tables on Sri Lanka. Moor fell to paceman Lahiru Kumara.

Commentary (Sri Lanka innings)

So that is it from us for this game! Sri Lanka win a pulsating Test match and avoid embarrassment by chasing down a mammoth total. Zimbabwe showed great character to take it down to the last day. The batting performance will give the Lankans great confidence heading into the Test series against India. The action will begin between the two Asian sides on 26th July. Zimbabwe on the other hand will head back home and work on their skills as they are not playing cricket for quite a while. Till then, take care and cheers!

Sri Lanka skipper, Dinesh Chandimal says that it has been a really good Test match. Credits his players as they have worked really hard. Mentions that it is tough to bat on day 5 and adds that the batsmen needed to apply themselves. Feels happy that the batsmen did just that. Gives a special mention to Gunaratne and Dickwella for batting so well. States that as a captain you have to be responsible on and off the field. Declares that it is a tough challenge for them against India but he is confident of a good show from his boys.

Zimbabwe skipper, Graeme Cremer says it is a little disappointing. Credits Sri Lanka for chasing a big target on day 5. Appreciates Rangana Herath for picking wickets at regular intervals. Mentions he is proud of his boys for fighting it out and taking it to the last day. Admits the one day series was a high point for them and it gave them belief they can play well in the tests. Ends by saying they have had a very good time in Sri Lanka and hope they come back soon to play another series.

Man of the Series, Rangana Herath says that he's aware that he has bowled more than 23,000 balls in First Class cricket. Mentions that he enjoys playing cricket and wants to bowl more in future. States that it is good to go past the records of Marshal and Botham in all time bowling list. Opines that it was a good game. Feels that Raza was playing a lot of sweeps and reverse sweeps and made it difficult for them. Adds that it was a challenge and they took it. Ends by saying that he is looking forward to the big series against India.

Man of the Match, Asela Gunaratne says he is extremely happy for what he has done. Thanks the team and the support staff for their support. Ends by saying that he is very happy that the team won.

Zimbabwe in both the innings were rescued by the lower order batters. That's a big positive for them. Sri Lanka have to be credited for achieving a come-from-behind victory, especially after conceding the psychological advantage at the end of the first innings by trailing Zimbabwe by 10 runs. The batters' efforts in the second innings had to be lauded as they didn't crumble under the pressure of a mountain of runs required.

The Zimbabweans can take heart from the fact that even though they were the lesser ranked side among the two, they were the side that was on top for most part of the game. Graeme Cremer, the skipper, was brilliant with the ball, claiming 9 wickets in the match. He was really probing the Sri Lankan batsmen with his guile. There were some half chances and some missed opportunities that, if grabbed, could have resulted in the match having a different end. All in all, this match proved to be yet another reason as to why Test cricket is alive and kicking.

So! It all comes to an end in the way it actually should have! Sri Lanka win and what an innings to finish it off by Asela Gunaratne. He kept his calm and played his shots and also cleverly rotated the strike to see off the tense moments in the last two sessions, ably supported in that last unbeaten 67-run stand, by Dilruwan Perera. Let's not forget the important innings that Niroshan Dickwella played, which acted as a catalyst for the run chase. Dinesh Chandimal, the new Sri Lankan skipper is elated with this victory and why not. This was the fifth highest successful chase in Tests.

...Day 5, Session 2...

Zimbabwe bowlers in this session had many ooohs and aaahs as there were edges that fell away from the fielders and also quite a few plays and misses. There's still a lot on offer for the bowlers, and they have to ensure that they keep up the pressure and bowl in good areas. Sri Lanka require 118 more runs to win, while the African visitors need to snap up 5 wickets for a brave victory; which side will take it all? Join us for the exciting action after lunch.

This was a session that Sri Lanka started slightly on the back foot. They lost the overnight batsmen Mendis and Mathews rather quickly. But then Dickwella and Gunaratne got in and have consolidated well so far. The former has used the sweep shot to great effect and has accumulated runs steadily, reducing the deficit in the process. Remember, he got a big let off from the third umpire when he was on 37.

Graeme Cremer is seen giving a huge pep talk to the team on this vital day for them. Sean Williams to start with the ball, with a slip and a short leg.

PITCH REPORT - Alistair Campbell and Dean Jones feel it is one of the best 5th day pitches they have seen. Opine if they can keep Cremer under 3 wickets Sri Lanka can win. Reckon it is still a good wicket and partnerships will be the key.

Zimbabwe on the other hand have a chance to create history. They have only bowled with their spinners so far and are starting to get a lot of assistance from the surface. A lot will depend on their captain Graeme Cremer who is spinning the ball square and having a jolly time with the ball. We are certain to have a result unless the weather intervenes. We are in for an exciting day of cricket.

Hello and welcome to the final day of the one and only Test between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. We have had four pulsating days of cricket and the visitors find themselves slightly ahead. Chasing a mammoth target, the home side has their best batsmen in the form of Angelo Mathews and Kusal Mendis battling out and they would hope they do the bulk of the scoring.

...Day 5, Session 1...

Scores in excess of 300 have been chased only thrice on the Sri Lankan soil. The hosts will need to bat really well to brave past the tourists. Can Zimbabwe create history by registering their first victory in Tests against Sri Lanka or will the home side prove their mettle? Join us for the final day tomorrow at 1000 local (0430 GMT). Till then, cheers!

Kusal Mendis is cramping up but he is fighting it out for the cause of his side. He is unbeaten on 60 and getting good support from Angelo Mathews. The good thing is that the home side has kept the scoreboard ticking and are still in the hunt. Afterwards, their bowlers came out and made life difficult for the opposition.

Another absorbing day of Test match cricket! The Sri Lankan batsmen have battled it out in the middle but Zimbabwe are slightly ahead at the moment.
