Suresh Raina embarrasses himself on Twitter

New Delhi: Suresh Raina flew home from Sri Lanka and landed straight into trouble at home, thanks to his tweet on Thursday night that he later deleted and the next day clarified as being posted by his nephew.

The controversy finds its roots in the tweet posted by Raina's verified Twitter account, which ridiculed Pakistan after they lost to Sri Lanka in the World Twenty20 semi-final on Thursday. "Ek do din late gaye ghar !!!! Woh bhi besharam ki tarah Gaye... Bye bye Pakistan!!!!" it read.

The users of the microblogging site, especially those who follow Raina on twitter, were quick to condemn the comment as unbecoming of a national cricketer. That prompted Raina to delete the tweet soon after.

The next morning Raina came up with a clarification tweet, attributing it to the smart phones and his nephew. "Smart phones r dangerous. Discovered it last night after my nephew posted random tweets. I'm a sportsman and would never disrespect," he tweeted, adding, "Though I already deleted it, I felt its better to clarify. To all those who r upset, I'm sorry. I'm not one to show disrespect."

But people questioned the truth behind that excuse and some even poked fun at the limited-overs specialist and his 'nephew', to the extent that it gave birth to the spoof account @raina_nephew.
