Tackling Starc, Cummins will be key: Phil Jaques

Cape Town: Yorkshire's veteran batsman Phil Jaques believes that how his team tackles the Sydney Sixers fast-bowling duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins will decide the outcome of their Champions League Twenty20 game on Tuesday. "They [Starc and Cummins] are two young players on the rise," Jaques said. "They both bowl very fast. How we tackle those two at the top of the order and at the death will go a long way to setting up a win."

Heaping praises on Cummins, Jaques said the 19-year-old was extremely talented and his progress would depend on how he kept himself injury free. "Cummins is talented, although he's had a few injuries, which no one likes to see. He swings the ball both ways with a good slower ball and bouncer, and he bowls 150kph. He's got all the attributes. But the faster they bowl, the further they can go sometimes," he said.

The 33-year-old was was excited to take on his former Sydney team-mates before facing Mumbai Indians, Highveld Lions and Chennai Super Kings in the CLT20. "They're a pretty solid team who has players who've played together for a while," he said. "These are guys I've played with for years. Most of them have been part of my state team. It's always good to play against your mates, and we'll obviously be trying to stuff them the best way we can."

Jaques made 32 and 6 in Yorkshire's qualifying campaign against Sri Lanka's Uva Next and Trinidad & Tobago respectively. As an international cricketer he represented Australia in 11 Tests and six ODIs before a back injury sidelined his career.
