    HC seeks details of Bevco outlets licences

    KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the state government to provide the details of the licences issued to the outlets of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation and their sales turnovers and excise duties during the last three years.The Bench comprising Justice C N Ramachandran Nair and Justice K Vinod Chandran passed the order, while considering a petition filed by hoteliers challenging the new amendment brought to the Foreign Liquor Rules.“The government pleader shall get the details from Excise Commissioner about the new licence issued to the beverages corporation outlets in the last three years.The state shall get a report from the Beverages Corporation about the year-wise sales, turnover for the last three years, including the sale for this year up to February 28 along with the break up of excise duty and sale tax,” the court held.The amendment to Rule 13(3) of Foreign Liquor Rules allows the existing hoteliers which did not have any star facilities to continue using their licence. Therefore, the amendment was illegal and arbitrary, the petitioner said. The petitioner said that as many as 450 hotels were functioning in the state.
