New Delhi: Hotelier Vikram Aggarwal, arrested for his alleged role in the IPL betting scandal, was granted bail on Friday. He was arrested by the Crime Branch CID and was under the scanner for his links to Gurunath Meiyappan and allegedly allowing his hotel to be used for betting.
Chennai-based hotelier was arrested on June 10 by the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch-CID for his role in the IPL betting scandal. "We have been able to establish that he was gambling on IPL matches," TN CB-CID DSP Venkatraman had said.
The police had said that they have learnt that Aggarwal was in close contact with arrested bookie Kitty and that he used his hotel Radisson Blu as a location to place bets.
"Further enquiry has revealed that Aggarwal had details of pitch conditions, among other information. So now we have decided to place him under arrest," Venkatraman had said.
Aggarwal, who allowed some bookies to operate from his hotels, had earlier sought time to appear before the CB-CID. His two hotels in Chennai were raided after his alleged links with bookies came to light.
