Watson allowed to skip tour match, stays on in London

Staring at another Ashes defeat, Australia have decided that the best way to bring Shane Watson back into game-changing mode is to keep him away from the game for a while to get his thought process back in order.

Watson, along with opening batsman Chris Rogers and fast bowler Peter Siddle, has been allowed to skip the tour match against Sussex to stay on in London to refresh himself.

In his four innings so far in England, Watson has been dismissed LBW three consecutive times. England seemed to have worked out the Australian opener's weakness and will continue to target that.

Off-field incidents have also contributed to cluttering Watson's mind. Media reports suggested sacked coach Mickey Arthur had alleged that skipper Michael Clarke called Watson a 'cancer' for the team. After that, Watson was attacked on Twitter by David Warner's brother.

All of the squad, with the exception of James Pattinson who has been ruled out for the rest of the Ashes, will be available for the third Ashes Test at Old Trafford starting on August 1. Australia are down 0-2 in the five-Test series.
