We are not entertaining distractions, says Dhoni

Kolkata: Notwithstanding the unending celebrations saluting Sachin Tendulkar in his farewell series, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday said the team is focused on the match and would not entertain distractions once the Test begins at the Eden Gardens here on Wednesday.

"It is always good when you know such things will happen and you are mentally prepared. The lesser the distractions, the better. So far so good. Once the game starts I don't think the team will entertain any such thing," said Dhoni.

"The focus is there. We are not thinking of anything except cricket. There are things that have to happen but as far as the last few days are concerned, we are absolutely normal. The dressing room atmosphere is great."

Dhoni praised Tendulkar saying the batting great has always guided and interacted with youngsters in the team.

"He has always been for the team. But now that it's his last two Tests, you are noticing it more. He has always been one who interacts and guides the youngsters. I don't think there has been a significant change. He was like this always."

Asked whether the team would dedicate the match to Tendulkar if they win, Dhoni replied: "What we need to do first is focus and win the match and then we will decide."

Tendulkar will be hanging up his boots after the two Tests at Eden Gardens and Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium (Nov 14-18).

However, Dhoni expressed concern over the lack of allrounders in the side, saying the team needed to find someone like Ravindra Jadeja.

"Now that we don't have Jadeja, we are thinking whether we should have a fifth bowler or play a batsman," Dhoni said on the eve of the first Test match against the West Indies.

"We will have to find someone for Jadeja is someone who can do the job. We need to have plans for now. We don't have many who can do the job," Dhoni said.

Jadeja has been rested for the two-Test series owing to a shoulder strain. Dhoni said the lack of allrounders was an area of concern.

"It has been a bit of concern. We need a seam bowler or spinner who can bat," he said.

Taking a pot shot at critics, Dhoni said: "At times we don't realise the importance of a player and often criticise and don't realise what impact he has on the team."
