    • Resuming the innings after Lunch, Joe Root along with Ian Bell consolidated the England innings.

    • Coming out to open the innings, England skipper Alastair Cook made 34 runs and put on a 56-run partnership with Jonathan Trott for the second wicket.

    • Opener Nick Compton missed out and edged an away-going delivery from Tim Southee to third slip for one.

    • Doug Bracewell and Neil Wagner dismissed Jonathan Trott and Cook off consecutive deliveries to restrict England to 67/3 at Lunch.

    • Johny Bairstow contributed with a useful 64 and put on a 124-run partnership with Root for the fifth wicket.

    • Playing only his sixth Test, Root notched up his maiden century. His 104 included nine boundaries

    • Trent Boult struck with the second new ball dismissing both Root and Bairstow in quick successions reducing England from 270-4 to 286-7.
