FIFA lifts Cameroon suspension from world football

Zurich: FIFA has lifted Cameroon's suspension from world football, clearing the African country to play a key World Cup qualifying match against Libya.

FIFA imposed the ban July 4, citing government interference at the Cameroon Football Association (Fecafoot) following disputed elections last month.

FIFA says it lifted the sanction after an emergency management committee "was able to take up its duties" Monday at Fecafoot offices.

A resolution was expected after FIFA President Sepp Blatter hosted a Cameroon delegation last week.

Cameroon host Libya on Sept. 6 in World Cup qualifying. Cameroon lead their group by one point, and the winner advances to a final playoff round.

The sanction still forced the postponement of club side Coton Sport's African Champions League group match against Sewe Sport of Ivory Coast on Saturday.
