'Be curious, I know I will forever be': Stephen Hawking writes in his first message after joining Facebook
Hawking's Facebook page experienced a 'Big Bang' of likes just hours after he joined the social networking site.

After exploring the infinitely captivating universe, Stephen Hawking is now going to discover a new world - the world of social networking. The theoretical physicist joined Facebook and posted a very interesting message for his fans.

'I have always wondered what makes the universe exist. Time and space may forever be a mystery, but that has not stopped my pursuit. Our connections to one another have grown infinitely and now that I have the chance, I'm eager to share this journey with you. Be curious, I know I will forever be.
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my Facebook Page. -SH'

The status message was posted last night on Stephen Hawking's official page and there has been a Big Bang of likes on the page since then. The famous physicist also posted a video of his three children taking the ice bucket challenge since 'it wouldn't have been very safe' for him to have done it.

Interestingly, Hawking's biopic 'The Theory of Everything' is due to premiere in a couple of weeks. While science enthusiasts are anxiously looking forward to more updates from him, a lot of people believe this is also a part of promoting his biopic. However, Hawking has made no mention of the movie and only seems to have joined the social networking website to share and discuss his knowledge of the universe.

On Day 1 of joining Facebook, Stephen Hawking has gathered a million likes on his page, including one from Mark Zuckerberg, and close to 9,000 likes on his profile picture! One of his fans declared him the 'god of Physics' which triggered a long thread of comments. This was amusing since Hawking has never believed in god and has been quoted saying the question of god creating the universe doesn't make sense to him.
