While he may be in love with the shape of you (and also your body), Ed Sheeran himself is the internet’s du jour celebrity crush. Despite looking like an unkempt adult Ron Weasley -- or perhaps because of it -- Sheeran’s music, nice guy image and perceived approachability have helped him scale the charts, both of music and popularity. So when the singer appeared in a cameo on the first episode of the highly anticipated seventh season of Game of Thrones which premiered last night, social media naturally imploded.

The episode, titled Dragonstone, shows one’s favorite girl, Arya Stark, on her way to King’s Landing on a mission of vengeance, when she encounters some soldiers in the forest, including one who’s singing a ditty popular in the Seven Kingdoms. No prizes for guessing who that is. Arya joins the warriors for a few swigs of blackberry wine, some roast squirrel and to bask in the warmth from their fire, before continuing on her deadly way.

Sheeran is the latest musician to feature in the series, most of whom have appeared in blink-and-you-miss-it roles. Sheeran’s is perhaps the longest appearance and for a rather pertinent reason. Maisie Williams, the actress who portrays Arya Stark, is a hug Ed Sheeran fan, something she’s never shied away from admitting.

While it was common knowledge that Sheeran would appear on the show in some capacity after an announcement to the affect was made in March, the reason for his relatively extended screen presence with Williams were simple: the producers were just being nice. According to reports, the producers had been keen to get Sheeran on the show for a couple of years, as a surprise for Williams, and it finally worked out. Apparently Williams wasn't even told about it until Sheeran appeared on set, in costume. A girl was ecstatic as was seemingly the majority of Twitter. Check out the world's response to Sheeran's GoT debut below.
