PM Modi says Indians were ashamed of their country before he assumed office; Twitter outrages
The hashtag #ModiInsultsIndia trending across twitter is testimony to just how outraged people felt at the Prime Minister's callous comment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently created controversy by claiming that in the past, Indians were apparently ashamed of being born in their country.
Modi was quoted in a newspaper saying “Earlier you felt ashamed of being born Indian” and that his term in office is what has changed that perception.

This comment has caused uproar throughout the internet, which can be seen quite clearly as the hashtag called #ModiInsultsIndia trended across twitter. People’s outrage was directed towards Modi, BJP and how they had no right to insult India and that it was not Modi’s call to say that people are ‘ashamed of being born in India’, on their behalf.
Just talked to Brahma. He's not ashamed to have been born Indian either. #ModiInsultsIndia

There were however a lot of people who felt that the whole thing was blown completely out of proportion. They feel that a section of the population that has been known to be more 'liberal' is acting unfairly and have double standards.
So happy to see the liberal crowd on Twitter being proud of India for once. My eyes are filled with tears of joy #ModiInsultsIndia
