PIL questions Bikram Singh's succession as Army Chief
The petitioners claim that General Singh cannot be elevated as there is a pending case against him in a fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Wednesday challenging the recommendation to appoint Lieutenant General Bikram Singh as the next chief of the Indian Army.

Incidentally, the petition was filed by several prominent citizens including former chief election commissioner N Gopalswami and former Navy chief admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas.

The petitioners claim that General Singh cannot be elevated as there is a pending case against him in a fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir.

There were also complaints that he failed to take action against officers accused of sexual harassment when he was heading a peacekeeping force in Congo.
