New Delhi: Three months after facing a major dissidence in his ministry, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announced that he would effect a reshuffle in his cabinet soon.

"The Congress high command has given me the approval for a reshuffle of my ministry. I will do it soon," he told reporters here.

In July, Gogoi faced a major dissidence led by the then Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He, however, overcame the crisis and dropped two key supporters of Sarma from his cabinet. Sarma himself resigned from his post.

Asked about the media reports which had suggested that Assam's main opposition party AIUDF has some links with jihadi elements in Bangladesh, Gogoi said he had no information about it and the central agencies also have not shared any such intelligence input with his government.

"But I want to assure you that if anyone, including any political leader, is found to be involved in any anti-national activity, we will not spare him. Guilty will be punished," he asserted.

Gogoi, however, admitted that some youth of Assam had established links with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and that resulted in the arrest of 11 people in the state.

Gogoi had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Assam appears to have become the target of organisations like al Qaeda and JMB and asked him to take up the issue with neighbouring countries for coordinated action.
