TRIPUNITHURA: The UDF Government is trying to destabilise the Leftist thinking streams prevailing in the cultural scenario of the state. It has declared an ideological war to convert youngsters into a mere apolitical entity, said Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan.  
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Pandit Karuppan Memorial Art Club at Udayamperoor.
In such an atmosphere, possibilities are many to deviate the young generation from the main stream of society, which would lead them into terrorism or other anti-social activities, he said.
Though most of the cultural organisations, including libraries and clubs have got multistoried buildings with sufficient facilities, the reading habit is found to be diminishing.
Channels are competing with each other to convert society into a mere spectator of glorified programmes.  
He urged the art lovers to fight against consumerism spreading in the art and literary fields. Instead of moulding new groups of art makers, channels and other vested interests were trying to market the art forms, he alleged. Udayamperoor Panchayat President Ajitha Salim presided over the function.
