New Delhi: Delhi woke up to season's first foggy morning on Wednesday. The visibility was very poor which resulted in the delay of many flights and trains.

The visibility was recorded at 800 metres at 5:30 AM, which dropped to 200 metres three hours later. The relative humidity was recorded at 98 per cent.

The unexpected fog was preceded by a very clear Tuesday with the minimum temperature recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season.

"Today was foggy. Similar conditions are expected for the next two days also," said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet.

According to Delhi Traffic Police, air quality in Capital remains 'severe'; PM 2.5 & PM 10 levels remained above normal standards in several areas.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said, "There could be a rise in pollution as the wind speed decreases due to fog."

At least 18 flights and 50 trains coming to Delhi have also been delayed.

The flight operations at Lucknow airport were also affected due to the dense fog which left scores of passengers in a lurch.

Earlier on Tuesday, five people, including two children, were killed in road accidents in Uttar Pradesh due to poor visibility as shallow to moderate fog in parts of the state since Monday night.
