Friday Release: Animated action film 'Arjun'
This Friday, 'Arjun: The Warrior Prince' will have to fight a stiff battle against 'MIB 3' at the box office.
New Delhi: This Friday, Hindi film 'Arjun: The Warrior Prince' will stand tall to face the big Hollywood release 'Men In Black 3' at the box office. Though the audiences have seen films such as 'Rancho' and 'Roadside Romeo' in the past, still the Indian film market is not very open about animation films yet.
Bollywood actor Jaaved Jafferi expresses his opinion about the future of animation films in India,"This mentality that Indians have that animated films are only for kids is very wrong. Animated films are high-grossing films at the box-office, be it 'The Incredibles', 'Jungle Book' series, 'The Lion King', all animated films are top-grossers at the box office. I don't see why not, why it can't happen here."
Arnab Chaudhuri, the director of 'Arjun: The Warrior Prince', rejects the allegation that his film is especially made for children. He spoke to IBNLive about it,"Mine is not a children's movie, it's an action film. Filmmakers choose mythological stories because they give reference points. If you look at the early Disney movies they were fairytales for exactly the same reason. The magic started to happen when filmmakers start to bring their perspective into films."
'Arjun: The Warrior Prince' showcases the story of Arjun, one of the Pandavas. The film captures his life from Hastinapur to Himalayas. The promos of the film give us a glimpse about the grandeur with which it is made. However, that doesn't bring us any closer to the level of animation films of Hollywood, Arnab speaks, "I don't know if we can get that level of investment just yet. I guess the investment in 'Tintin' would be the budget of the entire cinema of every kind, north and south combined for a full year and you'll still not hit the 'Tintin' budget."
Produced with the help of Walt Disney Pictures and UTV, the film is the story of a person who pays a lot to become a hero.
The film has used some of the renowned voices of the TV and film industries for the characters. Yuddvir Bakolia is giving voice to Arjun while Anjan Srivastav plays Lord Shiva. Similarly, Sachin Khedekar, Ila Arun and Vishnu Sharma play Lord Krishna, Kunti and Bheeshma respectively.
Composer duo of Vishal-Shekhar has given the music for the film. There work will be crucial as the emotion evoking capacity of an animation film majorly depends on its background score.
