Friday Release: Funny 'Supermen of Malegaon'
The film shows the struggle that the makers of 'Malegaon Ka Superman' had to undergo while shooting their film.

New Delhi: Finally, the documentary 'Supermen of Malegaon' is going to be released in cinema halls after a wait of four years. The film has been receiving accolades at different film festivals since then. Director Faiza Ahmed Khan's film is a fun filled documentary on the entire filmmaking process of Shaikh Nasir's 'Malegaon Ka Superman'.

Faiza threw some light on her film in an interview given to a known daily, "First of all, this documentary wasn't even meant for film festivals, let alone a commercial release. I got interested in this particular subject because there are people in Malegaon who produce films just for the love of cinema. They don't even have the resources to sustain their celluloid dreams. But that doesn't stop them from trying."

She further added, "Spiderman is about Peter Parker in New York who was bitten by a radioactive spider, whereas 'Supermen of Malegaon' is a true story of a bunch of guys from city-next-door who are bitten by the film bug. Plus, it's much funnier."

The film shows the kind of struggle that the makers of 'Malegaon Ka Superman' had to undergo while shooting their film. It shows everything from the scarcity of budget to lack of availability of actors. Shaikh Nasir and his team of passionate people kept going only because of their love for the medium.

The basic storyline of the film features a local Superman who stands up against the devilish interests of the 'ghutka' mafia. Ironically, the hero of the actual film Shafique Shaikh died of the mouth cancer in 2011. He used to chew more than 40 packets of 'ghutka' everyday.

'Supermen of Malegaon' is the portrayal of the importance of films in poverty stricken lives of people working in the power loom industry of Malegaon. The documentary is expected to receive appreciation on its much awaited release.
